Search and rescue teams from across the country train in Virginia Beach

SEARCH AND RESCUE DOGS CAN BE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LIFE AND DEATH. TODAY, TRAINERS AND THEIR CANINE COMPANIONS CAME FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY TO VIRGINIA BEACH. 10 ON YOUR SIDE’S MARIELENA BALOURIS VISITED A SPECIAL KIND OF EMERGENCY RESPONSE TRAINING TODAY. MARIELENA — WHAT WAS THE TRAINING LIKE? IT WAS AMAZING TO WATCH THE DOGS IN ACTION. THEY WERE RUNNING AROUND THESE GIANT PILES OF RUBBLE LIKE IT WAS NO BIG DEAL. AND THE TRAINERS TOLD ME IT REALLY WASN’T A BIG DEAL TO THE DOGS. THOSE PILES OF RUBBLE ARE LIKE THEIR PLAYGROUNDS. THEY KNOW THEY HAVE TO FIND SOMETHING — AND THEY DO IT. THEY JUST DON’T KNOW THAT THE STAKES ARE MUCH HIGHER THAN A GAME. PERSON HIDDEN IN THE RUBBLE. NATS OF BARKING THE BARKS ARE THEIR SOUND OF VICTORY. KAREN MEADOWS, K9 SEARCH SPEACLIST, VA TASK FORCE 2, VB CLIP 22665 22;00;29;19 THESE DOGS ARE TRAINED TO USE THEIR NOSE TO FIND A SCENT SOURCE THAT THEY CANNOT SEE AND THEY CANNOT HEAR THE BARKS TELL THE TRAINERS THAT THE CANINES FOUND THEIR PRIZE. AND IN EMERGENCY SITUATIONS — THAT PRIZE IS A PERSON, DEAD OR ALIVE. ERIC DARLING, CO-FOUNDER OF SUPERFIT CANINE CLIP 2681 22;18;19;09 SO WHEN YOU HEAR THE TRAINING WAS COORDINATED BY SUPERFIT CANINE — A GROUP FROM PHILADELPHIA THAT BROUGHT THE 36 TRAINERS AND THEIR CANINES TOGETHER FOR TWO DAYS OF TEACHING AND LEARNING. ERIC DARLING, CO-FOUNDER OF SUPERFIT CANINE CLIP 2681 22;15;59;21 WE WAKE UP EVERY MORNING, WHAT CAN WE DO TO HELP? WE VOLUNTEER OUR TIME, WE INCLUDED SEARCHING FOR PEOPLE IN THREE GIANT PILES OF RUBBLE AND REPELLING DOWN A FOUR STORY BUILDING. THEY SAY USING THE VIRGINIA BEACH FIRE TRAINING CENTER CHALLENGES THE TRAINERS, AND THEIR CANINES. ERIC DARLING, CO-FOUNDER OF SUPERFIT CANINE CLIP RUBBLE, THEY CAN LEAP THESE VOIDS THAT WE COULDNT POSSIBLY EVEN THINK OF THE TRAINERS HAIL FROM 17 STATES. MANY ARE PART OF FEMA URBAN SEARCH AND RESCUE TEAMS — AND HAVE BEEN DEPLOYED ACROSS THE COUNTRY FOLLOWING HURRICANE MATTHEW, THE AMTRAK TRAIN DERAILMENT IN PHILADELPHIA, HURRICANE KATRINA AND MORE. THEIR GOAL: BRING AS MANY PEOPLE HOME AS POSSIBLE. ERIC DARLING, CO-FOUNDER OF SUPERFIT CANINE CLIP 2681 22;17;41;22 OUR JOB IS TO MAKE SURE EVERYBODY COMES HOME THE TRAINING CONTINUES TOMORROW WITH TREATING CANINES WHO ARE INJURED IN SEARCH AND RESCUE OPERATIONS. I’M MARIELENA BALOURIS,
