K9 recovering after snake bite

TUESDAY NIGHT ABOUT 11 I GOT
CALLED OUT TO TRACK A SUSPECT. WE WERE TRACKING PRETTY GOOD AND
HE GOT DOWN IN THE
WATER AND YELPED AND STARTED
BITING BACK AT THE
WATER SO I I KNEW SOMETHING GOT
HIM SO I GOT HIM OUT OF THE WATER
AND HE WAS HOLDING HIS FOOT. I
THEN SAW THE BLOOD WHERE THE
FANGS WENT IN. DEPUTIES IMMEDIATELY CALLED
LOCAL VET RICK
DR. RICK KIRBY WHO CAME IN TO
GIVE K9 JACK
SHOTS AND MEDICAL ATTENTION. SHIVERS
SAYS IT’S ONE OF THE DANGERS OF
BEING A K9
HANDLE TO THEM IT DOESN’T MATTER THEY
HAVE A JOB TO DO, I DIDN’T
WANT TO GET IN THE WATER AND HE
DIDN’T THINK TWICE ABOUT IT. ONCE HE GOT BIT HE WANTED TO
CONTINUE WORKING OF
COURSE I COULDN’T LET HIM SO I
HAVE OT MAKE SURE HE DOESN’T
HURT HIMSELF ANYMORE. SHIVERS
SAYS HE BELIEVES IT WAS EITHER A WATER MOCCASIN OR COTTON MOUTH
THAT BIT
JACK, BUT HE IS RECOVERING WELL. HIS FOOT IS STILL SWOLLEN AND
SORE BUT IN THE LAST 12 HOUSE HE
HAS STARTED TO ACT LIKE HIMSELF
AGAIN HE IS SHAKING HIS TAIL
AND ALL. JACK IS BACK IN THE PATROL CAR
BUT IS
TAKING THE WEEK OFF FROM HIS
REGULAR
DUTIES. IN RANKIN COUNTY, ALLIE WARE, 16
WAPT NEWS.

JACK IS ONE OF 8 K-9’S IN THE
RANKIN COUNTY
SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT.
