  • Is it possible to supply an acuarate spelling of the work camp this woman was kept during the war.
I'd like to research it more on my own.
    Thanks again for posting.
( Sad that in this day and age of instant college demonstrations and political "involvement" there were so few students in the audience.)

  • I am so grateful this was posted. As a nurse, I often come across patients that had some role in WWII. I am incredibly honored to meet them and give them care. However it is rare that they share any stories because it is much too painful. So, this is incredible. Thank you.

  • @Elberiver11

Tsk tsk. Don't you know: those atrocities were committed in the name of peace, equality, and justice for all.

Oh, and to "free the world from the threat of tyranny". can't forget that part.

You can kill unlimited numbers of innocent civilians when you have such lofty goals as these.
    (end sarcasm)

  • @bricky36 She's saying it started in holland in 1940, thats when the war began for them like, they werent invaded until then ๐Ÿ™‚

  • The entire piece was very moving and inspiring in a way,yet so sad, and a reminder of that horrific tragedy-Seeing the strength and survival within these two ladies, even in telling these very important stories, is very moving.thank you for uploading

  • Such a strong and brave woman who did survive to the atrocity !
    The testimony is that moving….

Smart the idea of putting a message hidden in the cakes…;)

  • Nice story but Damn she goes around the moon and never gets to the point and I don't mean nice like they were treated well but nice that this women was strong and managed to survive

  • Strangely enough, Eline Hoekstra doesn't appears much agressive while speaking of her ordeal. Can be the years that went by. Else, she has realised through the generations that followed that the whole "Jewish hate" wasn't the drive behind all this. There is no real racial issue. It always been simple criminals who needed a pretext, a reason.
Same thing since the homosapien began to live in society 50K years back. The closing of her daughter is meanfull in that regard.

  • there really is a modern day concentration camp in guantanamo bay cuba . and probably other places in the world so maybe not as evil but they still exist

  • I listened to nearly three minutes of this video. The number of historical "mistakes" mentioned in these three minutes made my stop watching a perhaps interesting eye witness report. I am Dutch, I know the history of this country during WW II. Unfortunately you do not. This is an insult to your parents.

  • I watched this a year ago, perhaps longer. Seems the older generation has so much strength than my son's generation. This subject I've studied my entire life; from about middle school to present. I always learn new facts regarding horrific holocausts that happen more frequently then most know. So sad mans inhuman acts towards one another.

  • I didn't know that, what can we do to get this good man and his family recogonised for his heroic deeds. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Maybe we can start with simple emailing all our contacts, or if some can post an address for Jewish organization that we can send this info to, maybe they will assist in correct recognition for this wonderful man. 30,000 lives saved = at least 100,000 today when you take into account the offspring.

  • I am from Holland myself, born and raised here. Never have I heard a dutch man or woman speak this good English! (that is the daughter, Eline. I didn't hear the mother yet)
I thought I was good at it myself but this beats all.
My respect and thoughts go out to all the survivors and the families and relatives of the people who didn't survive…

  • To whomever wrote to me about my remarks regarding the fact that I could not believe anyone with any kind of sanity could honestly believe the horrifying fact that the concentration camps existed I wish to say that I had a relative that dies in Belsen also one does not have to express their opinion with FOUL language I am 83 and proud to say that when expressing an opinion or even having a chat I have never ever had to use FOUL language to admit to my opinion.Joyce Maric

  • German and Japanese cities were industrial targets and you know it. They made aircraft there, had rail yards running troops and equipment there, made guns, bombs, refined petrol there and so on. They just didn't count on an opponent having 1000s of B-24s and B-17s and other bombers. Too bad.

  • I understand everything about this story and do not doubt the little girls died..the only thing is that as a German speaker, I have to say German is not so far from Dutch. I have been able to even speak Afrikaans through my German knowledge so the little girls wouldn't have been that isolated also if the father was a professor (of the Mom) at that time he must have spoken German.

  • My family have the last name Hoekstra, I wonder if there's some sort of relation. Distant relatives had a passport from Czechoslovakia. They were from Austria as well.

  • What a wonderfully feisty ~ spunky women ~ so glad she lived a long & fruitful life ~ I never can comprehend — or wrap my head around the utterly hateful evil things that one human soul can perpetrate on another ~ I hope we have learned ~ but sadly I fear we have not… Peace to you always ๐Ÿฆ and God Bless ๐Ÿ˜‡

  • Also wanted to say as a daughter ~ you are wonderful & courageous in helping your Mother share her story as I have no doubt your life has been affected also ~ please continue ~ as the world needs to hear & never forget ~ as before Peace to you ๐Ÿฆ and God Bless ๐Ÿ˜‡

  • Just wanted to share, this woman passed away few weeks ago. She was my neighbor, and as a kid spent many hours with her doing puzzles. She also presented at my high school.

  • I have never been able to take on board the sadism and frankly pure evil of the Nazis, and I guess a large part of the German people at the time. Of course they felt humiliated by the defeat in WWI, and the hardship in the years to follow certainly didn't lay the ground for a kind and accepting society. But even considering that I can't understand it.

  • Many people question America's gun culture, their 2ND Amendment Right to own firearms. BUT you should also be suspicious of any government or politician who doesn't trust its citizens to be armed. Because armed citizens would never willingly load themselves into railroad box cars.

  • My son used to like to wear these big clunky, winter boots and make noise. It drove me nuts when he was little. He would wear them in church and make noise on the pews. It's a very annoying grating noise and then put that with what happened to her, I could understand that noise was freaking her out.

  • Very well described in a tenor voice. I think life in Asia and Africa is better compared to the Europe in the 1940s…..

  • I call bullshit on some of these details that the daughter is telling, for the thing about throwing a letter out of the train on the way to Auschwitz and somebody actually finding it and mailing it is complete bullshit there is no way that that happened, there is no way on earth that in German pick that up paid the postage and sent that for a Jewish person at that time.

  • I really donโ€™t like the way that the daughter pointed out that getting pregnant was a bad idea and all of that, it seemed very condescending and disrespectful to her mother she shouldโ€™ve just stated the facts and then let people form their own opinions about what they would think of that

  • …..Ridiculous having the โ€œdaughterโ€ doing so MUCH of the talking. She came across as very pushy to me….Her mother was absolutely magnificent and didnโ€™t NEED the daughter to do any talking…..Better to just have the daughter help with physical needs….

  • where can i find the story about what happened to her brother she said is another story and how his war family went to america and could not finish the story.pls someone let me know how i can find the info.it facinates me how adoptive children can grow and love someone the same as blood families.

  • I love these ladies so much! Thank you so much for sharing your story. God bless you and your family โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ

  • I wish I could hear about the aftermath. Shame that it couldn't go on longer. I am really interested in the aftermath of the war and what it was like in the DP camps and how they pieced their lives back together.

  • Thank You, Thank you! for sharing your families story!

Its soo important to share these pieces of history, it brings to life a part of history school books have tried to quickly pass over.
Personally I feel the Jewish have such a rich history and wisdom to share. I didnโ€™t get to hear my families history or what happened to them. I do know once they came to America from Germany our last names were changed to look less Jewish and no one after that that I know of followed the faith. Which I feel is a shame.
I wish you and your family many blessing and good health.

  • Deb, I first read an interview with your mom in 1994, I think it was.
Every now and then, Iโ€™d google her to check on her, lol, and read interviews or watch video.
Iโ€™m aware that she died I. 2018. I wanted to send a card to letter, but I was concerned that youโ€™d think Iโ€™m a crazy stalker. Iโ€™m not; Iโ€™m a woman who found immense strength and beauty in your momโ€™s life.

Did she make an interview video with the Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, MA?

  • That star represents as a cut, the hope diamond reflection of the "star of david" . It is in conflict as the alleged African contraversy. The takers want to deny the issue that it was part of a larger real map/ tool. The anger issues that pertain to the great stone is the want and denial. It will be tracked whether black out or not. Love is a rose. That part of where the secretive giving to the queen a stone part as well.
Now we understand a saddening affect that allows too many catholic paradox. It matters still today.
    Thank you for sharing.

  • I had not to this date heard such a detailed description of living as a Jew under German occupation. What I find important as a lesson from this account is that we should take heed to the warning about collectively harboring HATE against a particular group. Today, though many live in so-called 'free countries', there exists a phenomena where industry and governments have coupled up to erect and operate micro-wave radiation telecommunication infrastructures throughout all inhabitable regions DESPITE the fact that such radiation harms human biology as well as all other living species. Social marginalization due to Electro-sensitivity is one of the lesser dire consequences to government and industry's action concerning the forceful installation and operation of these installations YET these same parties prevent generalized populations from knowing that human suffering and premature deaths are taking place in consequence of. These powers insinuate, via government declarations and biased news source outlets, that people who oppose micro-wave radiation saturated environments should be viewed as alarmists; extremists; psychologically unfit etc; in other words, HATED.

  • really lovely ladies, I worked for Jewish people and a Jewish nursing home 10 years ago, I was always well looked after and treated with respect.
these ladies are so brave and love and respect to them and all Jewish people.

  • This is my first time hearing that Jews had to turn in your bike and a receipt given to u that they stole it
    The two little girls ๐Ÿ˜–๐Ÿ˜ฃ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿคง

  • The suitcase ๐Ÿคง๐Ÿ˜ข
    Mislead so many
    The great grand parents๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿคง๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ˜ฃ๐Ÿ˜”๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ˜–

  • This the first person that explained her deception on the filthy nazis
She confessed to stealing the bread
Nobody told but she didnโ€™t want the others to suffer Bc the filthy nazis had threatened
    To make everyone suffer
She doesnโ€™t touch on that at all she chose for herself to suffer instead of every one
