COMM: This incredible scene shows two giraffes coming neck to neck in a fight for a female’s affections. COMM: Wild-Life Tours owners, Steven Mecinski and Britt van Meegen, spotted the standoff
while guiding some visitors through the area. COMM: Giraffes can weigh up to 3,000 pounds and their necks alone can top 500 pounds.
In dominance battles, giraffes use their necks to hit their opponent’s necks, bodies and
legs. The males try to wrestle each other off balance to impress a potential mate or
to establish dominance. COMM: After trading a few brutal blows, the dominant bull drove off the loser, leaving
the winning giraffe free to find his female.
